Germany has agreed to back Morocco's initiatives to enhance renewable energy and green hydrogen production. This collaboration comes as Germany aims to diversify its hydrogen suppliers to lower emissions from its industrial sector and diminish dependence on natural gas. The plan involves importing a significant portion of Germany's hydrogen demand from Morocco by 2030. Officials from both nations highlighted the vast potential in Morocco for renewable energy and green hydrogen. The newly formed Climate and Energy Alliance will facilitate cooperation in various areas, including the development of the green hydrogen sector, electricity trading, climate adaptation, and workforce training. The alliance aims to ensure a just transition to a green hydrogen economy, distinct from previous fossil fuel-based economic models. Germany's involvement in constructing Morocco's inaugural green hydrogen production facility, anticipated to yield 10,000 tonnes annually, signifies a concrete step in this partnership. This strategic alignment is viewed positively, emphasizing mutual benefits and equitable participation for both Germany and Morocco in shaping the future energy landscape.
