Höegh Evi, a prominent player in marine energy infrastructure solutions, has announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with the port of Port-La Nouvelle to establish a floating terminal dedicated to hydrogen imports. The imported hydrogen will originate from producers based in the Middle East, North Africa, and the Americas, with the terminal at Port-La Nouvelle expected to play a crucial role in advancing Europe's transition towards clean energy by serving as a key hub for the significant importation of hydrogen. This initiative will see collaboration with various European projects, including the HySoW Hydrogen initiative and gas pipeline operator Teréga, allowing the floating import terminal to link Port-La Nouvelle to essential hydrogen transport infrastructures. This connection is poised to enhance the industrial and energy appeal of the Occitanie region while fostering job creation. The partners are currently engaged in assessing the feasibility and designing the infrastructure solution within the port. The planned terminal aims to facilitate the annual import of up to 210,000 tonnes of hydrogen by 2030, contingent on the preparedness of France's hydrogen pipeline system. As part of the project timeline, efforts are underway to evaluate the feasibility of the endeavor and develop the necessary infrastructure within the port premises. Port-La Nouvelle, located in the OCCITANIE Region and projected to commence operations in early 2026, will serve as a pivotal asset for business growth, traffic diversification, and activity expansion. The construction of the new deep-water port is expected to bring about significant opportunities for economic development and support the transition towards cleaner energy practices.
