Indian Oil has handed over a state-of-the-art green hydrogen fuel cell bus to the Indian Navy for trials and performance testing in New Delhi. This initiative is part of the government's green initiative and aims to deploy environment-friendly transportation options. An MoU was signed between Indian Oil and the Indian Navy to pioneer the deployment of hydrogen fuel cell technology for heavy-duty e-mobility. The project will evaluate the performance of fuel-cell electric buses in the challenging climatic conditions of the Delhi NCR region and analyze the impact of local fuel and air quality on the fuel-cell systems and vehicles. The goal is to assess the effectiveness, longevity, and operational reliability of fuel cell buses for public fleet utilization. Indian Oil is currently operating 15 fuel cell buses in Delhi-NCR and Gujarat, accumulating a total mileage of 300,000 kilometers. Each bus is expected to run at least 20,000 km as part of this initiative. The collaboration between Indian Oil and the Indian Navy aims to position the Indian Navy as a pioneer in evaluating hydrogen and fuel cell technology for heavy-duty e-mobility.
