Industrie De Nora Awarded Contract for Electrochlorination Units in Qatar's North Field South Project
Key Ideas
- Industrie De Nora, a specialist in sustainable electrochemical technologies and green hydrogen, has secured a contract to supply electrochlorination units for Qatar's North Field South project.
- The project, part of the North Field LNG expansion program, will significantly increase Qatar's LNG production capacity from 77 to 142 million tons per annum by 2030.
- The electrochlorination units will produce sodium hypochlorite on-site to support LNG production capacity, contributing to biofouling control, water disinfection, and brine management in the facilities.
- This contract follows a previous award for the North Field East project and demonstrates Industrie De Nora's continued involvement in the development of sustainable solutions for large-scale energy projects.
Industrie De Nora, an Italian company specializing in sustainable electrochemical technologies and the green hydrogen industry, has been chosen to supply electrochlorination units for the North Field South (NFS) project in Qatar. The contract was awarded by the T.EN CCC Joint Venture, led by Technip Energies and Consolidated Contractors Company, for QatarEnergy LNG. The NFS project is part of the North Field LNG expansion program, set to elevate Qatar's LNG production capacity from 77 to 142 million tons per annum by 2030.
The electrochlorination units to be supplied by Industrie De Nora will consist of two CECHLO-MS 326 units capable of producing a high-strength sodium hypochlorite solution on-site. These units, distributed across two mega LNG generator trains, will collectively produce 294 kg of sodium hypochlorite per hour, supporting an LNG production capacity of 16 million tons per annum per train. The sodium hypochlorite generated will be instrumental in biofouling control, water disinfection, and brine management within the LNG facilities.
This contract builds upon Industrie De Nora's previous involvement in the North Field East project, where similar units were deployed across four mega LNG trains with an 8 million tons per annum capacity each. The electrochlorination systems are essential for ensuring operational efficiency, safety, and environmental sustainability in large-scale LNG production. Industrie De Nora's continuous contributions to such significant projects underscore their commitment to providing innovative and eco-friendly solutions for the energy industry.
