JinkoSolar Partners with CIC for 10 GW Green Hydrogen Project in Northern Territory
Key Ideas
  • JinkoSolar collaborates with Climate Impact Corporation to supply high-efficiency modules for a 10 GW off-grid green hydrogen production facility in the Northern Territory.
  • The Green Springs project aims to produce over 500,000 tonnes of green hydrogen annually through a network of modular renewable hydrogen production units.
  • The use of JinkoSolar's N-type TOPCon technology is expected to significantly reduce the levelized cost of electricity of the project and increase its cost-competitiveness.
  • Climate Impact Corporation plans to replicate the success of the Green Springs project in other regions globally, leveraging suitable climatic conditions and infrastructure for green hydrogen production.
China-based JinkoSolar has entered into a partnership with Climate Impact Corporation (CIC) to supply PV modules utilizing N-type TOPCon technology for a large-scale green hydrogen production project in the Northern Territory. The Green Springs project, developed by Darwin-based CIC, will involve the deployment of a 10 GW off-grid network of renewable hydrogen production units, leveraging solar generation, an electrolyzer, and a water extraction device to produce more than 500,000 tonnes of green hydrogen annually. By incorporating JinkoSolar's high-efficiency modules, the project aims to achieve a competitive production price of $3.34 per kilogram for green hydrogen. The N-type TOPCon technology is expected to bring down the levelized cost of electricity by enhancing power generation capacity and performance in various conditions. Both JinkoSolar and CIC are optimistic about expanding similar projects globally, with plans already in motion for a 10 GW green hydrogen project in South Australia and potential sites in regions like the Middle East and parts of Europe. The success of the Green Springs initiative is seen as a model for future green hydrogen projects worldwide, highlighting the shift towards sustainable and cost-effective hydrogen production.
