Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) and the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) have entered a partnership to investigate the feasibility of blending hydrogen with natural gas in Thailand. This initiative aligns with Thailand's commitment to achieving Net Zero emissions by 2065 as outlined in its Power Development Plan and Hydrogen Promotion Plan. The collaboration was solidified through a Memorandum of Understanding signed at the sixth Japan-Thailand Energy Policy Dialogue hosted in Tokyo, Japan. The Deputy Governor of EGAT commended the venture for combining clean fuels with advanced Japanese technologies to enhance eco-friendly power generation in Thailand. Toshiyuki Hashi, MHI's Executive Vice-President, highlighted the strategic collaboration's objective of leveraging expertise from both countries to pioneer clean energy solutions for Thailand. This effort is in line with Thailand's ambitious target of attaining a 20% share of power generation by 2050. Additionally, Mitsubishi Power, a subsidiary of MHI, will deploy hydrogen-ready gas turbines in a project in Utah, USA. The turbines are designed to operate on a 30% hydrogen fuel blend initially in 2025, with the ultimate goal of transitioning to 100% hydrogen fuel by 2045. The positive reception of this partnership underscores the global momentum towards sustainable energy solutions and underscores the importance of international cooperation in advancing environmental conservation. The collaboration not only facilitates knowledge exchange on hydrogen technologies but also opens up new business opportunities in the power generation sector for Thailand.
