Namibia is making significant strides in advancing its hydrogen ambitions, with a total of eight projects currently in development. Three of these projects are on track to commence production as early as 2024, positioning Namibia as a key player in the green hydrogen market in Southern Africa. One standout project, HyIron, has set a goal to produce 15,000 tons of emission-free iron by the year 2025. Another initiative, the Daures Green Hydrogen Village, aims to generate 100 tons of green ammonia annually for use in fertilizer production. Despite the interest in these sustainable products, particularly from Germany, no purchase agreements have been finalized due to the higher cost compared to fossil fuel-based alternatives. However, Germany's H2Global initiative plans to assist by organizing bidding competitions for Namibia's green products, potentially narrowing the price difference. Moreover, both Germany and the EU have committed to providing additional financial support to bolster Namibia's hydrogen endeavors, with an extra €36.9 million allocated for unspecified projects. These initiatives not only have the potential to boost Namibia's economy but also contribute significantly to the global push for sustainable energy solutions.
