Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company PJSC – Masdar and EMSTEEL have announced the successful completion of a pilot project in Abu Dhabi, showcasing the use of green hydrogen to produce green steel. This innovative project marks a significant milestone as the first of its kind in the Middle East and North African region. The renewable hydrogen produced by the project has been certified by Avance Labs and validated by Bureau Veritas, meeting the ISO 19870 methodology for hydrogen. The UAE is positioning itself to be a key player in green steel production, with support from initiatives like the National Green Certificates Program by the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure. The partnership between Masdar and EMSTEEL highlights the potential of green hydrogen in decarbonizing the steel industry and advancing the global energy transition. Both companies emphasize the importance of decarbonization efforts and aim to contribute to the UAE's Net Zero by 2050 Strategic Initiative.
