ZSW and Ecoclean Collaborate on EcoLyzer for Green Hydrogen Production
Key Ideas
- ZSW and Ecoclean celebrate the commissioning of the first production-ready EcoLyzer electrolyser for green hydrogen production.
- The EcoLyzer P200, with an output of one megawatt, is based on a modular system concept allowing cost-efficient construction of plants with 1 to 20 MW output.
- The technology for efficient hydrogen production developed by ZSW over the last 10 years does not require resource-critical raw materials and can be easily scaled up.
- Ecoclean has built production capacities for electrolysers, with plans for an initial output of 200 MW per year that can be doubled depending on market demand.
The Zentrum für Sonnenenergie- und Wasserstoffforschung Baden-Württemberg (ZSW) and Ecoclean GmbH have successfully commissioned the first production-ready EcoLyzer electrolyser for green hydrogen production. The EcoLyzer P200, consisting of two modular units with a one-megawatt output, is the result of a collaborative effort as part of the 'EcoLyzer BW' joint project. This project aimed to develop an internationally competitive electrolysis system for series production of green hydrogen. The modular concept allows for the cost-effective construction of plants with an output range of 1 to 20 MW near energy sources.
Manfred Hermanns, Director of Sales & Customer Services at Ecoclean GmbH, expressed the success of the collaboration, highlighting the speed at which the product was developed and put into operation with the assistance of ZSW. The EcoLyzer is technologically based on a system developed by ZSW over the past decade, utilizing alkaline pressure electrolysis technology that does not rely on resource-critical raw materials, making it scalable and low-maintenance.
Following the test phase, the EcoLyzer will be sent to the Rheinisch-Westfälische Technische Hochschule (RWTH) Aachen to produce green hydrogen for the Chair of Thermodynamics of Mobile Energy Conversion Systems (TME). Ecoclean has also established production capacities for electrolysers, targeting an initial output of 200 MW per year with the flexibility to double production based on market demands. The modular design allows for cost-effective production with short delivery times, catering to various applications in mobility, industry, energy, and local hydrogen production.
