Canadian Pacific Kansas City Ltd. has announced the successful launch of two hydrogen production and refuelling stations in Calgary and Edmonton as part of its hydrogen locomotive program. These stations are a key milestone in CPKC's efforts to reduce emissions in the railway industry. The company is collaborating with Atco EnPower, a division of Canadian Utilities Ltd., to operate these stations. CPKC's initiative involves retrofitting diesel locomotives with hydrogen fuel cells, allowing them to operate without generating harmful emissions but emitting only water vapour. This move aligns with the company's 2020 announcement of designing and building North America's first line-haul hydrogen-powered locomotive. Currently, CPKC has three hydrogen-powered locomotives in service, showcasing a commitment to sustainable transportation practices.
