DHL Supply Chain and Diageo North America have revealed their collaboration to incorporate two Nikola hydrogen trucks into their US fleet for delivering goods from Diageo's Plainfield campus in Illinois. The Class 8 hydrogen fuel cell trucks will be supported by a Nikola HYLA modular refueller at the site, marking a proactive step towards greener logistics solutions. While specific routes for these hydrogen trucks are yet to be disclosed, the focus remains on enhancing the environmental sustainability of their operations. Marsha McIntosh, President of North America Supply at Diageo, expressed enthusiasm for this initiative, emphasizing the significance of introducing heavy-duty hydrogen trucks to Illinois, a pivotal location for Diageo's manufacturing activities. Additionally, Jim Monkmeyer, President of Transportation at DHL Supply Chain, highlighted this deployment as part of their commitment to tangible sustainability actions. The Nikola hydrogen truck boasts an impressive range of up to 500 miles, facilitated by 70kg of hydrogen in a 200kW fuel cell module paired with 164kWh of batteries, contributing to emission-free transportation. This move aligns with the broader trend of major companies adopting eco-friendly practices, with Walmart Canada also integrating a Nikola hydrogen truck into its operations in Ontario. Nikola's President and CEO, Steve Girsky, commended the partnership with DHL and Diageo for driving the transition towards zero-emission transportation. The collaboration signifies a collective effort to promote sustainability in the supply chain sector by embracing innovative solutions like hydrogen-powered vehicles.
