DHL Supply Chain, in collaboration with Diageo North America, has announced the introduction of hydrogen-fueled trucks to its U.S. fleet. The partnership involves deploying Class 8 trucks manufactured by Nikola Corporation at the Diageo campus in Plainfield, Illinois, a development that marks a significant milestone for the state. This initiative is part of DHL's sustainable supply chain strategy, which focuses on various eco-friendly practices, such as using battery electric vehicles, optimizing vehicle usage and routes, and shifting to a multimodal approach. The hydrogen fuel cell electric trucks are set to significantly reduce carbon emissions, with an estimated 80% decrease over a year when replacing two diesel trucks. These Nikola trucks leverage fuel-cell technology to power their electric motors, offering an impressive range of 500 miles on a single fill. The refueling technology for these trucks is provided by HYLA, a hydrogen fuel distribution and dispensing company. Both DHL Supply Chain and Diageo express excitement about this partnership, emphasizing the positive impact on air quality, greenhouse gas emissions, and the overall sustainability of their operations.
