Element Fuels Holdings has finalized site preparation and pre-construction for a groundbreaking hydrogen-powered refinery and combined-cycle power plant in the Port of Brownsville, Texas. Expected to be operational by 2027, this facility plans to produce sufficient low-carbon hydrogen to meet the entirety of the refinery's fuel demands. Surplus hydrogen generated will be utilized for producing low-carbon electricity through Element's hydrogen-capable combined-cycle power plant. Moreover, more than 100MW of excess electricity will be provided to the Energy Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT). Co-CEO and Founder of Element Fuels, John Calce, emphasized the company's achievement in securing permits for a refinery capable of generating over 160,000 barrels of fuel daily, showcasing their commitment to producing cleaner, higher-octane fuels and contributing to the energy transition. Collaborating with McDermott for front-end engineering design (FEED) services, including offsites and utilities, demonstrates Element Fuel's dedication to sustainable energy solutions. McDermott's Senior Vice-President for Low-Carbon Solutions, Rob Shaul, highlighted the company's continued focus on delivering low-carbon projects and advancing the energy production landscape. This project marks a significant milestone in the shift towards cleaner energy production and highlights the potential for sustainable fuel advancements in the industry.
