ABB and Charbone Hydrogen Corporation have joined forces to develop up to 15 green hydrogen production facilities in North America over the next five years. This collaboration aims to provide a clean fuel source for industries currently using grey hydrogen, focusing on sectors like steelmaking. ABB will play a crucial role as the main supplier for electrical substations and automation services, with the first project located in Sorel-Tracy, Canada, set to connect to the Hydro-Québec grid by mid-2025. The partnership aligns with Gouvernement du Québec's strategy to reduce petroleum consumption by deploying green hydrogen, ultimately cutting greenhouse gas emissions. Additionally, Charbone will implement ABB's Extended Operator Workplace system for efficient monitoring and control, marking a significant advancement in green hydrogen production in North America.
