Rostock-based project developer H2Apex has acquired HH2E's 1GW green hydrogen production plant in Lubmin, Germany, as part of an investor agreement. The acquisition of HH2E Lubminwerk aims to enhance H2Apex's hydrogen ambitions in northern Germany. Despite HH2E awarding a construction contract for the plant, the project never proceeded to a final investment decision until H2Apex's involvement. H2Apex is also developing its own 100MW hydrogen plant in Lubmin, set to be operational by 2028 and eventually scaled up to 600MW. The new development acquired by H2Apex is expected to attract significant investments, scaling from 100MW to 1GW, with the company handling construction and operations internally. The CEO of H2Apex, Peter Röbner, sees Lubmin as a strategic location for the German hydrogen industry due to its proximity to offshore wind farms. The acquisition of HH2E's project aligns with H2Apex's existing engagement and offers synergies and competitive advantages. This acquisition comes after HH2E faced financial challenges and self-administration following funding withdrawal by its majority shareholder. The future of green hydrogen production in Lubmin appears promising with H2Apex's involvement and strategic plans for scaling up the projects.
