Hyzon Motors Inc. has recently entered into a significant purchase agreement with GreenWaste, a renowned recycling and innovation company in the United States, for the delivery of North America's first 12 hydrogen-powered refuse Fuel Cell Electric Vehicles (FCEVs). This agreement is subject to Hyzon meeting specific commercial terms and specifications outlined in the contract. Hyzon also announced the commencement of production for its single-stack 200kW Fuel Cell System, allowing the company to mass-produce standardized Fuel Cell Systems (FCSs) for commercial distribution. Hyzon's FCEVs, specifically designed for refuse collection, are trailblazing in the North American market, offering zero tailpipe emissions and contributing to a cleaner environment. GreenWaste has made history by becoming the first company in North America to operate these hydrogen-powered refuse collection vehicles commercially. In an effort to reduce its environmental footprint, GreenWaste achieved an impressive 36.3% decrease in total combined Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions in 2023 compared to the previous year. This achievement underscores the positive impact of transitioning to hydrogen-powered vehicles for sustainability. Prior to finalizing the purchase agreement, GreenWaste conducted a successful trial of Hyzon's refuse FCEV by completing various routes throughout the Bay Area. The upcoming deliveries of these FCEVs to GreenWaste, scheduled to commence in Q4 2025, mark a significant milestone in the adoption of hydrogen-powered vehicles in the waste management sector.
