Olin Corp. and Plug Power Inc. have successfully commissioned a 15 ton/d hydrogen liquefaction plant in St. Gabriel, Louisiana, through their joint venture, Hidrogenii. This facility, one of the largest of its kind in North America, signifies a significant step in fortifying the regional hydrogen supply chain and expediting the nation's transition to eco-friendly energy sources. The plant, designed to liquefy hydrogen produced by Olin for nationwide distribution, will particularly cater to Plug's material handling customers, supported by Plug's unique spot pricing market. With a maximum capacity of 15 ton/d, the plant's operations are set to elevate Plug's overall production capacity to 40 ton/d. Plug CEO Andy Marsh expressed enthusiasm about the new facility, emphasizing its financial advantages through a steady and cost-efficient hydrogen supply that diminishes reliance on external sources. Ken Lane, President and CEO of Olin, echoed these sentiments, highlighting the strategic alignment of the joint venture with Olin's value-centric growth approach. The successful establishment of this state-of-the-art liquid hydrogen facility in Louisiana adds to Plug's network expansion strategy, complementing existing production sites in Woodbine, Georgia, and Charleston, Tennessee, as part of the company's broader initiative to scale a green hydrogen network nationwide.
