DHL Supply Chain and Diageo North America have announced plans to integrate two hydrogen fuel cell electric trucks, manufactured by Nikola Corporation, into their U.S. fleet, in a move to decarbonize their logistics operations. The trucks will be operated at the Diageo campus in Plainfield, Illinois, and fueled with a HYLA modular refueler, marking a milestone for the state. By utilizing fuel cell technology, the trucks offer a sustainable alternative to traditional diesel-powered vehicles, with up to 500 miles in range on a single fill. The transition from diesel to fuel cell electric vehicles is expected to significantly reduce carbon emissions, improve driver comfort and safety by reducing noise and vibrations, and lower local emissions like particulate matter and nitrogen oxides. Diageo's incorporation of these trucks into its fleet aligns with its commitment to achieving net zero carbon emissions across its operations by 2030. The collaboration between DHL, Diageo, and Nikola involved over 18 months of planning, including coordination with state and local stakeholders to ensure a smooth and safe rollout.
