French companies TotalEnergies and Air Liquide have announced a significant expansion of their collaboration in the Netherlands to accelerate the energy transition in the petrochemical industry. The project involves the construction of two electrolyzers with capacities of 200 and 250 megawatts in Rotterdam and Zeeland, aiming to provide hydrogen to TotalEnergies’ refineries and petrochemical platforms. This initiative, requiring an investment of over one billion euros, is seeking European and national funding for industrial decarbonization. TotalEnergies' strategy includes reducing CO2 emissions by three million tons annually by 2030 by replacing conventional hydrogen with low-carbon alternatives. The companies have already secured a substantial amount of green or decarbonized hydrogen per year, furthering their commitment to sustainability. Additionally, TotalEnergies and Air Liquide have been working together in France to supply low-carbon hydrogen to various production sites. The Netherlands project extends their successful collaboration into a strategic market for the petrochemical industry, aligning with TotalEnergies' ambitious goals for emission reductions and energy transition.
