Werner Enterprises, a US transportation and logistics provider, has taken a significant step towards sustainability by incorporating a hydrogen fuel cell-powered truck into its fleet. This move aligns with the company's goal of reducing its carbon footprint. The International RH Series Class 8 truck, owned by Navistar's International, has been fitted with Accelera by Cummins fuel cell and electric powertrains, enabling emission-free operations. Chad Dittberner, Werner's Senior Vice-President, highlighted the importance of investing in cutting-edge technology like the Accelera fuel cell engine to enhance operational efficiency and promote a greener future in transportation. Dawn Wehr, General Manager at Accelera, emphasized the collaborative effort with fleet operators to refine and improve zero-emission technologies, leading to increased industry credibility and confidence. Werner's ambition to decrease its carbon footprint by 55% by 2035 has driven the testing and validation of various fleet technologies, including biodiesel blending, battery-electric tractors, and compressed natural gas engines. Through partnerships and technological advancements, Werner Enterprises is not only striving to achieve its sustainability targets but also contributing to the evolution of eco-friendly practices in the transportation industry.
