The Commission for Hydrogen in Australia has recently commissioned the largest hydrogen plant at the Christmas Creek site of Fortescue Metals Group (FMG). This advanced plant, in collaboration with Fabrum New Zealand, includes a hydrogen liquefaction facility, liquid hydrogen storage tanks, and refueling stations for hydrogen-powered mining trucks and stationary power systems. FMG aims to use this hydrogen plant to power zero-emission mining equipment starting from August 2024 as part of its efforts to reduce carbon emissions. The production capacity of the plant is 350 kilograms per day, with 600 kilograms of liquid hydrogen storage, supporting FMG's ambitious decarbonization goals. FMG has also successfully tested its hydrogen-powered haul truck 'Europa,' which completed a long overland journey for onsite testing.
