Hyundai's upcoming Initium SUV is making waves in Australia as a stylish and off-road adventure-ready concept that promises a substantial 650km range between hydrogen refuels. However, the challenge lies in the scarcity of hydrogen refuelling stations in the country, which limits the accessibility of fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs) like the Initium. With only 12 hydrogen refueller stations currently in operation or under construction, hydrogen cars have mainly been the domain of urban fleets, specifically eco-minded governments. Hyundai aims to change this landscape by introducing the Initium, a production FCEV expected to launch in the first half of 2025, with plans to bring it to Australia as a replacement for the Nexo.
