Ecopetrol's Innovation and Technology Center, a key research and development complex in Colombia, is undergoing a transformation into the Colombian Institute of Petroleum and Transition Energies (Icpet). With a mission to drive the energy transition in the country, Icpet will leverage its 39 years of experience, infrastructure, and expertise to lead scientific research and technological development. The institute, located in Piedecuesta, Santander, will focus on enhancing efficiencies in hydrocarbon production while exploring hydrogen, renewable energy, and low-emission solutions. President Ricardo Roa Barragan highlighted the institute's commitment to staying in Santander and becoming a center for energy transition development. Icpet's ambitious modernization plan includes investing in cutting-edge technologies and infrastructure, with plans to mix hydrogen and natural gas to create a low-emission fuel. The institute aims to train its researchers and workers on energy efficiency, renewable energy, and hydrogen. Future initiatives involve establishing pilot plants for carbon capture, synthetic fuels, and biomass transformation. This transformation signifies Ecopetrol's dedication to sustainable energy solutions and reducing carbon emissions.
