The UK Ministry of Defence has conducted a successful trial using hydrogen-powered generators (HPUs) supplied by GeoPura to power military vehicles over a total distance of approximately 120,000 miles. The trial specifically focused on implementing battery-electric vehicle (BEV) charging capability using HPUs at five strategic MOD locations in the UK. Following this trial, GeoPura plans to utilize the insights gained to further their research and development efforts, with a focus on developing smaller, more mobile hydrogen systems tailored for shorter deployments. Additionally, efforts will be made towards creating larger power-dense systems to meet the varied operational needs both in the UK and internationally. The UK MOD views hydrogen as a crucial element in transitioning towards zero-emissions energy, recognizing its potential in enhancing operational efficiency and reducing exposure to contested defence logistics. The Ministry of Defence sees hydrogen as a sustainable solution that complements the expanding electric vehicle fleet. GeoPura's Chief Hydrogen Business Officer, Matt Barney, highlights the benefits of green hydrogen, emphasizing rapid charging capabilities with no harmful emissions, which can facilitate the wider adoption of electric vehicles and contribute to a greener future for Defence operations.
