Viking and Fincantieri have revealed details about the Viking Libra, the world's first hydrogen-powered cruise ship designed for zero emissions. Currently under construction at Fincantieri's Ancona shipyard, the Viking Libra is set to be delivered in late 2026. This innovative ship, classified as a small vessel with a gross tonnage of around 54,300 tons and 499 staterooms for 998 guests, will feature a hybrid propulsion system combining liquefied hydrogen and fuel cells. The propulsion system, developed by Isotta Fraschini Motori, can generate six megawatts of power, allowing the ship to operate without emissions. The Viking Astrea, the company's next ocean ship also under construction, will follow this sustainable model. Viking's dedication to sustainability is evident in their strategy, with plans for two more hydrogen-powered ocean ships for delivery in 2031 and an option for two more in 2033. The Company is also expanding its fleet with 26 river ships and 11 ocean ships expected by 2028 and 2031, respectively, to become a prominent player in the travel industry.
