McDermott and BW Offshore have formed a strategic partnership to enhance the technical and commercial feasibility of offshore blue ammonia production. This collaboration aims to facilitate a practical approach to offshore blue ammonia production, supporting the worldwide shift towards low-carbon energy sources and reinforcing the companies' dedication to sustainable energy initiatives. By leveraging their combined expertise, the two entities plan to advance the development of low carbon ammonia production on a floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) facility. The utilization of FPSOs in ammonia production offers various benefits such as improved environmental impact, enhanced health and safety standards, predictable schedules, and competitive ammonia production costs. BW Offshore will provide its FPSO solutions knowledge, while McDermott will contribute its extensive experience in engineering, procurement, construction, and installation (EPCI) within the energy sector. The partnership also includes the collaboration of CB&I and Korean shipbuilder Hanwha Ocean, who have received Approval in Principle (AiP) for an 80,000 cubic meters liquid hydrogen carrier design, indicating progress in sustainable energy solutions.
