China recently issued its first zero-carbon energy consumption certificate, marking a significant development in the country's renewable energy sector. The certificate was purchased by a hydrogen energy company in Henan province and was seen as a milestone in the marketization of green value for non-electrical renewable energy, especially in the non-electrical utilization of biomass. The entire certification process, including application, monitoring, verification, issuance, and trade, was conducted through the collaboration of industry associations and research institutions via the Zero Carbon Energy Certification platform established in December 2023. The pricing of the certificate, set at 60 yuan ($8) per piece, is influenced by China's carbon trading market to ensure a relatively stable price adjustment mechanism. This initiative highlights China's commitment to promoting renewable energy and reducing carbon emissions through market-driven mechanisms.
