The Indonesian government has unveiled the National Hydrogen and Ammonia Roadmap Book 2025-2060, outlining plans to integrate hydrogen into key sectors of the economy. The roadmap targets the industrial sector, power generation, gas networks, and transportation for clean hydrogen utilization. Green hydrogen, produced using renewable energy sources, is highlighted as a pivotal tool for achieving decarbonization, especially in sectors with challenging emission reduction prospects. The Institute for Essential Services Reform (IESR) advocates for green hydrogen as an essential element in Indonesia's energy transition, emphasized during the Global Hydrogen Ecosystem (GHES) 2025 event. IESR's Executive Director, Fabby Tumiwa, asserts that Indonesia stands to benefit from a competitive green hydrogen economy by leveraging technology development, favorable policies, financial support, and international partnerships. The roadmap calls for accelerating renewable energy deployment, integrating hydrogen into industries, enhancing infrastructure, providing incentives, developing policies, and upskilling the workforce to catalyze the green hydrogen ecosystem. Indonesia aims to tap into the growing Southeast Asian hydrogen market and position itself as a significant player in global clean energy trade. To foster collaboration and advancement in green hydrogen, IESR has initiated the Green Hydrogen Community of Indonesia (KH2I), inviting stakeholders to participate in research, policy dialogues, and market development. By aligning efforts and commitments, Indonesia envisions becoming a hub for low-carbon hydrogen production and export within the ASEAN region. Through proactive measures and international engagement, Indonesia is poised to play a vital role in the sustainable energy landscape, offering a promising future for green hydrogen development.
