Abraxas Power Corp. has announced that its subsidiary, Exploits Valley Renewable Energy Corporation (EVREC), is embarking on one of Canada's first commercial green hydrogen and ammonia production facilities in Central Newfoundland. The Project aims to develop a renewable energy site featuring a 530 turbine wind farm with a 3.5 GW electricity capacity and a 150 MW solar photovoltaic installation. This initiative marks a significant step in decarbonizing hard-to-abate sectors and contributes to the global energy transition efforts. The partnership with CB&I, a subsidiary of McDermott International, Ltd., will bring valuable industry expertise to the Project. McDermott's role under the early contractor involvement (ECI) agreement includes providing essential services for the hydrogen and ammonia production aspects of the facility. EVREC's project, supported by Abraxas Power, emphasizes the importance of renewable energy sources and aims to deliver green hydrogen and ammonia to global markets. With a focus on sustainability and innovation, the integrated project also includes plans for energy storage, port infrastructure, and large-scale production capabilities. By securing exclusive crown lands for development, EVREC paves the way for significant advancements in the energy sector. The anticipated production of 165kta of hydrogen and 5000 metric tons of ammonia per day showcases the scale and ambition of the Project. Furthermore, the goal of exporting green ammonia to international markets aligns with the company's commitment to supporting the energy transition. Overall, Abraxas Power Corp.'s leadership in the energy field, combined with strategic partnerships and a clear vision for sustainable development, positions the company as a key player in driving forward the transition to cleaner energy sources.
