Air Liquide has partnered with TotalEnergies to embark on ambitious hydrogen production projects in the Netherlands. The companies are investing a substantial €1 billion to establish two large-scale electrolyser facilities dedicated to generating renewable, low-carbon hydrogen. The first project, situated at Maasvlakte near Rotterdam, will house a 200 MW electrolyser capable of producing up to 23,000 tonnes of hydrogen annually. This output will cater to the needs of TotalEnergies' industrial operations under a long-term agreement while also accommodating other industrial and heavy mobility users in the area. The second project, a joint venture in Zeeland, will feature a 250 MW electrolyser powered by renewable energy sources, with the goal of yielding 30,000 tonnes of hydrogen per year by 2029. Both initiatives are aligned with the drive towards sustainable energy solutions and have garnered support from European funding and the Dutch government. Air Liquide's collaboration with TotalEnergies underscores the commitment of both companies to advancing the hydrogen sector, with additional plans to supply green hydrogen to refineries in France. These developments signify a positive step towards promoting hydrogen as a key player in the transition towards a greener future.
