Ashoka Buildcon, a construction engineering company based in Maharashtra, has announced its plans to invest Rs 9,000 crore in setting up a green hydrogen plant in Bihar. The Chief Operating Officer of Renewable Energy, Mayank Sharma, revealed this development during the Bihar Business Connect 2024 event after signing a memorandum of understanding with the state government. The company's focus on highway construction, power distribution, and solar projects aligns with its new venture into green energy production. Ashoka Buildcon intends to establish a 1,250 MW solar project that will be used to generate green hydrogen by splitting water molecules. Green hydrogen is recognized as a clean source of energy, producing only water when burnt, making it an environmentally friendly energy option. The initial phase of the plant will be located in Begusarai, Bihar, and is expected to take 1.5-2 years to become operational once all necessary clearances are obtained. Subsequent phases of the project will be implemented thereafter to enhance production capacity. With a robust order book, including significant projects in roads, railways, and power transmission and distribution, the company is well-positioned to undertake this ambitious green energy initiative. Notable projects by Ashoka Buildcon include a solar power plant for NTPC in Rajasthan and a recent contract with CIDCO for a road construction project in Maharashtra. The company's commitment to renewable energy and sustainability underscores its contribution to the transition towards greener and cleaner energy sources.
