Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) and KPIT Technologies have joined forces to promote hydrogen-based mobility in Kerala, India. The partnership aims to introduce fuel cell electric buses as part of the National Green Hydrogen Mission. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed at the Global Hydrogen and Renewable Energy Summit in Kochi solidifies the commitment to establish Hydrogen Refuelling Stations (HRS) in Kochi and Trivandrum. These stations will fuel mobility pilots between the two cities, fostering the adoption of sustainable hydrogen-powered transportation. The MoU signing ceremony, attended by senior officials from Kerala and Central Governments, showcased Kerala's first hydrogen-powered bus, highlighting a significant milestone in clean public transport. BPCL's HRS units will be instrumental in producing high-purity green hydrogen while KPIT's indigenous fuel cell buses will undergo testing in real-world conditions. This collaborative initiative not only advances the National Green Hydrogen Mission but also contributes to India's self-reliant vision through the integration of locally developed electrolyser and fuel cell technology. It sets the stage for a robust hydrogen mobility ecosystem, emphasizing the importance of sustainable and innovative solutions in the transportation sector.
