Climate Fund Managers (CFM), a blended finance venture co-owned by Dutch development bank FMO, has secured €150m in commitments from European investors for a new global energy transition and green hydrogen infrastructure fund. The fund, named Climate Investor Three (CI3), will initially target Namibia and South Africa, leveraging their abundant renewable resources and competitive production costs. CFM's blended finance model allows investments across the project lifecycle, from development to operations, facilitating private sector capital mobilization. The fund aims to invest in projects within the green hydrogen value chain, industry decarbonization, critical minerals, storage infrastructure, and enabling technologies for the energy transition. Through partnerships like SDG Namibia One and SA-H2, CFM aims to drive sustainable development and support the global energy transition in emerging markets. The cooperation between public and private sectors, governments, industry stakeholders, and international players is deemed essential for the success of green hydrogen projects. CFM's approach aligns with the belief that green technologies will become increasingly competitive and cost-effective compared to fossil fuels, driving the energy transition forward.
