Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) has partnered with a subsidiary of Singapore's Sembcorp to establish a strategic joint venture focusing on renewable energy and green hydrogen projects in India. This collaboration extends to exploring green ammonia production, sustainable fuel bunkering, and emissions reduction technologies for port operations, in addition to investigating various clean fuel solutions. The aim is to leverage BPCL's expertise in the energy sector with Sembcorp's track record in renewable energy deployment to meet India's demand for clean energy alternatives and aid in decarbonising high-emission sectors. The Chairman and Managing Director of BPCL, G. Krishnakumar, emphasized the company's commitment to renewable energy and achieving a 10 GW renewable energy portfolio by 2040, aligning with the goal of net-zero carbon emissions. Vipul Tuli, CEO of Sembcorp's Hydrogen Business, highlighted the collaboration's importance in addressing climate change challenges and praised the partnership's potential to provide decarbonisation solutions for challenging sectors. With India aiming to produce 5 million tonnes of green hydrogen annually by 2030, this venture plays a crucial role in supporting the country's clean energy objectives and bolstering its climate and energy security ambitions.
