Key Ideas
- The Government of India invites proposals for setting up Centres of Excellence (CoE) under the National Green Hydrogen Mission to promote innovation and sustainability.
- The CoEs aim to advance Green Hydrogen production, storage, and utilization technologies, fostering a transition to a low-carbon economy.
- These centers will serve as hubs for research, skill development, and collaboration among industry, academia, and government, driving innovations in Green Hydrogen technologies.
The Government of India, through the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), has released a call for proposals to establish Centres of Excellence (CoEs) under the Research and Development Scheme of the National Green Hydrogen Mission. The objective is to create world-class CoEs in India dedicated to advancing Green Hydrogen technologies to enhance energy independence and promote sustainability. These CoEs will focus on research, skill development, and knowledge dissemination to drive innovation in Green Hydrogen production, storage, and utilization. By facilitating collaboration among stakeholders, including industry, academia, and government, the CoEs aim to improve process efficiencies and drive new product development in the Green Hydrogen sector. With an allotted budget of Rs 100 crores, the Government aims to accelerate the transition to a low-carbon economy. The National Green Hydrogen Mission, launched in January 2023, with a significant budget allocation up to FY 2029-30, seeks to make India self-reliant in clean energy and a global leader in Green Hydrogen technology. By promoting decarbonization, reducing fossil fuel dependence, and fostering technology advancements, the Mission aims to position India at the forefront of the clean energy transition.
