GAIL India's Green Hydrogen Milestone in Madhya Pradesh
Key Ideas
- GAIL (India) Limited has successfully installed its first Green Hydrogen Plant at GAIL Vijaipur in Madhya Pradesh, marking a significant step towards adopting alternative energy sources.
- The plant, with a capacity of producing 4.3 TPD of Hydrogen through PEM Electrolyzer units, aims to produce high-purity hydrogen at 99.999 percent for various industrial processes and equipment.
- The hydrogen produced will initially be used alongside natural gas for captive purposes within the existing plant and later be distributed to retail customers in nearby areas, contributing to reducing carbon emissions.
- In addition to the Green Hydrogen Plant, GAIL is also investing in solar power plants at Vijaipur to ensure green power supply for the electrolyzer unit, showcasing a holistic approach towards sustainable energy production.
GAIL (India) Limited has achieved a significant milestone by setting up its first Green Hydrogen Plant at GAIL Vijaipur in Madhya Pradesh, in alignment with the National Green Hydrogen Mission (NHM). The inauguration of the plant, attended by senior officials including the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas Secretary, marks a strategic move towards embracing renewable energy sources.
The plant is equipped with 10MW PEM Electrolyzer units capable of producing 4.3 TPD of hydrogen through water electrolysis using renewable power sources. The high-purity hydrogen produced at 99.999 percent will be utilized in industrial processes and equipment within the plant initially, and later be made available to retail customers in nearby regions. This initiative not only promotes green hydrogen adoption but also contributes to reducing carbon emissions in the industrial sector.
Furthermore, GAIL is complementing its green hydrogen production by investing in approximately 20 MW solar power plants at Vijaipur, comprising both ground-mounted and floating units. This integrated approach highlights GAIL's commitment to sustainable energy practices and underscores the company's role in spearheading the transition towards cleaner energy sources in India. The establishment of the Green Hydrogen Plant and the solar power infrastructure signifies a progressive step towards a greener and more sustainable future for the energy sector in the region.
