Germany has approved a significant investment in Morocco to boost the production of green hydrogen and enhance sustainable energy practices in the fertilizer industry. This initiative, supported by the German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, involves a €30 million grant to a subsidiary of the Moroccan OCP Group for constructing a green hydrogen production plant near Casablanca. The plant will utilize renewable energy sources to convert hydrogen into green ammonia, a vital component for sustainable fertilizer manufacturing. Morocco aims to lead in green ammonia production, attracting substantial investments and fulfilling a significant portion of global ammonia demand. Joachim Flasbarth, Germany's State Secretary for Economic Cooperation and Development, highlighted the strategic importance of this investment in propelling Morocco into the green hydrogen sector and promoting sustainable practices. The partnership emphasizes the transition from fossil fuel-dependent industries to environmentally friendly methodologies. Additionally, it underlines the benefits of green hydrogen cooperation such as value chain development, energy security, and export prospects for German hydrogen technology companies.
