GreenH's Bold Move: Developing Norway's First Hydrogen Hub for Maritime Vessels
Key Ideas
  • GreenH secures NOK 1 billion for a hydrogen facility in Bodø to supply Vestfjorden ferry connection, marking a significant milestone in the project's development.
  • Enova's financial support and investments from Luxcara, SWEN Capital Partners, and other backers have been crucial in advancing the hydrogen hub project.
  • The facility will have an electrolyzer capacity of 20 MW and an annual production capacity of 3,100 tons of green hydrogen, catering to the maritime sector's needs.
  • Two hydrogen-powered ferries to be fueled from the Bodø facility will offer a sustainable maritime transport solution, significantly reducing CO2 emissions in the region.
GreenH, a Norwegian company, has announced a major step forward in its hydrogen project in Bodø with a NOK 1 billion financing package in place. The company has received support from Enova, Luxcara, SWEN Capital Partners, and other investors, facilitating the final investment decision for the green hydrogen facility. This initiative is set to be the first of its kind in Northern Europe and aims to supply up to 8.5 tons of hydrogen daily. The project, developed over four years, is a significant milestone towards a sustainable maritime sector. Notably, the facility's first phase will have a 20 MW electrolyzer capacity, with plans to produce 3,100 tons of green hydrogen annually. The hydrogen produced will fuel hydrogen-powered ferries operated by Torghatten Nord, reducing CO2 emissions substantially. In parallel, two hydrogen-powered ferries are being built at Myklebust Verft, set for delivery in 2026, representing a leap in green maritime transportation. These vessels will run on green hydrogen for at least 85% of their operations, contributing to a cleaner maritime industry. With a focus on sustainability and reducing emissions, the hydrogen hub in Bodø is a pivotal project for Norway's energy transition and the global push towards greener transportation solutions.
