Finnish energy company Helen has selected Sweco as its EPCM partner to build Helsinki's first green hydrogen production plant. The plant, named 3H2 Helsinki Hydrogen Hub, is set to start hydrogen production in 2026 with a capacity of approximately three megawatts. The collaboration between Helen and Sweco aims to supply the heavy-duty transport sector with green hydrogen while also enhancing energy efficiency by utilizing excess heat in the district heating network. Sweco's responsibilities include planning the project's infrastructure, project management, and design services, while the electrolyser and related equipment will be handled by another partner. The project represents a milestone in combining various sectors like electricity, transport, heating, and hydrogen. Finland's overarching goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2035 aligns with this initiative, with plans to significantly increase green hydrogen production within the EU by 2030. The partnership between Helen and Sweco signifies a step towards a greener future and sustainable energy solutions in Finland.
