Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu is scheduled to lay the foundation stone of Himachal Pradesh's inaugural 1 MW green hydrogen plant in Nalagarh on February 5. With an investment of Rs 8 crore, the plant, a collaboration between HP Power Corporation Limited and Oil India Limited, will focus on producing high purity green hydrogen as an industrial fuel. This initiative is part of the state government's strategy to transform Himachal into a green energy state by March 31, 2026. Green hydrogen is gaining traction in various industries due to its eco-friendly nature, serving as a clean substitute for conventional fossil fuels in transportation, manufacturing, and energy storage. The project's emphasis on zero carbon emissions will aid in the decarbonization of industries and energy systems, supporting environmental preservation efforts. Additionally, the production of green hydrogen will help mitigate the release of harmful pollutants like nitrogen oxides, sulfur oxides, and particulate matter, thereby safeguarding air quality and ecosystems. The plant is anticipated to commence operations by the conclusion of the year, marking a significant milestone in advancing sustainable practices in key sectors and promoting environmental sustainability.
