The Ministry of New & Renewable Energy in India is increasing the allocation for green ammonia production in the fertilizer sector from 5.5 lakh to 7.5 lakh tonnes per annum under the National Green Hydrogen Mission. The Mission, launched in January 2023, aims to achieve a production capacity of 5 million tonnes per annum of Green Hydrogen by 2030. The Ministry has amended the Scheme Guidelines to cater to the increasing demand for Green Ammonia in the fertilizer sector. The Mission, with an outlay of Rs. 19,744 crores, is set to drive India towards self-reliance in clean energy and reduce dependence on fossil fuel imports. This initiative is seen as a significant step towards promoting the use of Green Hydrogen and its derivatives, leading to the decarbonization of the economy and positioning India as a leader in Green Hydrogen technology and market.
