India recently introduced its Green Hydrogen certification scheme, spearheaded by MNRE Minister Pralhad Joshi, to streamline the production and export of Green Hydrogen. The scheme focuses on establishing clear guidelines for measuring, monitoring, verifying, and certifying Green Hydrogen, enhancing transparency and credibility in the industry. As a result, agreements were sealed to export 4.12 lakh tonnes of Green Hydrogen derivatives to Japan and Singapore, marking a significant stride in international trade relations. Additionally, India's National Green Hydrogen Mission, initiated in January 2023 with substantial funding allocated until FY 2029–30, aims to bolster the adoption of clean energy, diminish reliance on fossil fuel imports, and bolster the country's self-sufficiency in the energy sector. MNRE is actively engaging with states to facilitate Power Purchase Agreements and collaborating with the Power Ministry and CERC to address crucial energy-related issues. Moreover, the Minister has urged MSMEs to contribute to the transition towards renewable energy and create local job opportunities through grassroots implementation. This comprehensive approach underscores India's commitment to advancing sustainable energy practices and fostering a conducive environment for clean energy innovation and growth.
