During the 10th Times Network India Economic Conclave in New Delhi, Hardeep Singh Puri, the Union Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, expressed his optimism about India's potential to lead globally in green hydrogen production in the next 2-3 years. Puri highlighted the massive annual energy import expenditure of $150 billion and emphasized the cost-saving benefits of transitioning to green hydrogen. He affirmed India's advantageous position in the green hydrogen sector and expressed confidence in achieving significant success with this alternative fuel. Alongside green hydrogen development, Puri outlined the ministry's initiatives to address India's energy needs, including the commissioning of 80 biogas plants and a strategy to raise the natural gas share in India's energy mix from 6% to 15%. These efforts mark significant steps towards enhancing India's energy security and sustainability.
