Indonesia and Japan have forged a significant alliance to drive the transition towards a greener energy landscape, with a strong emphasis on hydrogen and ammonia. Indonesia's commitment to achieving Net Zero Emission by 2060 is reinforced by the unveiling of an energy transition roadmap that includes renewable sources like solar, hydro, wind, geothermal, hydrogen, and ammonia. This strategic move aligns Indonesia with the Asian Zero Emission Community (AZEC) advocated by Japan, showcasing a shared dedication to sustainable energy solutions. Japan's JICA played a pivotal role in convening a Hydrogen and Ammonia promotion forum in Jakarta, resulting in the signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation with key Indonesian entities. With the development of a National Hydrogen Strategy and the imminent launch of hydrogen standards, Indonesia aims to boost its utilization of hydrogen, exemplified by the inauguration of the Green Hydrogen Plant in Jakarta. The nation also eyes becoming a significant player in the global hydrogen market by leveraging its geographic location for green hydrogen export. The collaboration between Indonesia and Japan underlines joint efforts to advance policy frameworks, technology, and capacity-building for a sustainable energy future, in line with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
