In a noteworthy development, Union Minister of Power and Housing & Urban Affairs, Manohar Lal, inaugurated a fleet of green hydrogen buses in Leh, India. This initiative is part of NTPC's Green Hydrogen Mobility Project, which features a 1.7 MW solar plant, an 80 kg/day green hydrogen filling station, and five hydrogen intra-city buses. The project, located at a high altitude of 3650 meters above sea level, is designed to function effectively in low-density air and sub-zero temperatures, with the ability to fill hydrogen at 350 bar pressure. The station is set to significantly reduce carbon emissions and contribute to oxygen levels, equivalent to planting approximately 13,000 trees.
The project's focus on green hydrogen technologies aligns with NTPC's broader goal of accelerating renewable energy capacity. With Ladakh offering ideal conditions for solar power generation and green hydrogen production, the project emphasizes self-sufficiency in energy supply while eliminating the need for fossil fuel transportation. NTPC plans to expand such initiatives nationwide, emphasizing the establishment of hydrogen mobility projects and a hydrogen hub in Andhra Pradesh.
