Oman's Leading Role in Green Hydrogen Development with e-NG Facility Agreement
Key Ideas
  • TES and OQ Alternative Energy have partnered to explore the development of an e-NG facility in Oman, leveraging existing infrastructure for a green hydrogen-based solution.
  • Oman aims to produce over 1 million tons per annum of green hydrogen by 2030, supported by its renewable resources and a conducive implementation framework.
  • The collaboration between TES and OQAE signifies a significant step towards industrial-scale green hydrogen production, contributing to accessible and cost-effective e-fuels.
  • The establishment of the global e-NG Coalition in 2024 demonstrates a collective effort with industry giants to advance the adoption of green hydrogen technology.
TES and OQ Alternative Energy have entered into an agreement to explore the establishment of an e-NG facility in Oman. This facility would produce e-NG, a green hydrogen-based molecule similar to natural gas, by combining green hydrogen with CO2 through methanation. The advantage of e-NG lies in its compatibility with existing infrastructure for processes like liquefaction, transportation, and storage, gradually replacing traditional natural gas. Oman's ambition to lead the green hydrogen economy includes targets to exceed 1 million tons of green hydrogen production annually by 2030. The country's abundant renewable resources, particularly wind and solar energy, and a supportive implementation framework under Hydrom's directive, position Oman as a promising green hydrogen hub. Both TES and OQAE emphasize the importance of this partnership in advancing global energy transition efforts. The collaboration aims to harness OQAE's expertise in the energy sector to enable large-scale production of green hydrogen, ensuring the accessibility and cost-effectiveness of e-fuels. Najla Al Jamali, CEO of OQ Alternative Energy, highlights the potential for identifying new downstream opportunities and expanding markets for green hydrogen through this joint study. Furthermore, the establishment of the e-NG Coalition, consisting of industry leaders like TotalEnergies, Engie, and Mitsubishi Corporation, among others, signifies a shared commitment to promoting green hydrogen technology on a global scale.
