Oriana Power Ltd, a renewable energy company based in India, has unveiled plans to construct a gigawatt-scale factory dedicated to manufacturing alkaline electrolyzers and Balance-of-Plant (BOP) modules. This initiative, in partnership with US-based Splitwaters, aims to bolster the production of green hydrogen and various e-fuels such as green ammonia, e-methanol, and green methanol within the country. The electrolyzer factory is set to be completed in two phases, with the initial phase targeting an annual capacity of 500 MW by the year 2026. The partnership with Splitwaters is envisioned to facilitate the utilization of advanced electrolysis technology to enhance the efficiency of hydrogen production from renewable energy sources. Notably, the BOP systems will play a crucial role in supporting the electrolyzers by overseeing essential functions like water supply, gas separation, and purification, thereby ensuring optimal system performance and reliability. Anirudh Saraswat, the chief business officer of Oriana Power, highlighted the significance of this collaboration in addressing the challenges faced by the green hydrogen market, particularly pertaining to high initial capital expenses and prolonged execution timelines. The strategic alliance with Splitwaters is anticipated to enable Oriana Power to implement state-of-the-art technology for producing clean energy carriers at scale while significantly reducing costs, with a projected capital expenditure decrease of up to 30% compared to alternative methods. Furthermore, Oriana Power is actively engaged in green hydrogen and e-fuels projects in the UK and Europe in conjunction with Splitwaters, underscoring their commitment to expanding their sustainable energy endeavors globally. Saraswat expressed optimism regarding the forthcoming financial year, expecting substantial revenue contributions from the Green Hydrogen and e-Fuels business segment, with a significant revenue share forecasted by FY2027. This venture signifies a pivotal step towards advancing the adoption of green energy solutions and fostering innovation in the renewable energy sector.
