Plug Power and Allied Green Ammonia Partner for Mega Green Hydrogen-to-Ammonia Project
Key Ideas
  • Plug Power to supply 3GW of Proton Exchange Membrane electrolysers for AGA's green hydrogen-to-ammonia plant in the Northern Territory.
  • AGA will power the electrolysers with a 4.5GW solar plant, aiming for zero-emission clean electricity.
  • The project, set to be one of the world's largest green ammonia production facilities, will produce about 2,700 TPD of green ammonia.
  • The partnership aims to meet the growing demand for green ammonia in sectors like agriculture, energy storage, and transport, supporting a net-zero emissions future.
US-based Plug Power has signed a significant purchase agreement with Allied Green Ammonia (AGA) to supply 3GW of Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) electrolysers for AGA's green hydrogen-to-ammonia plant in the Northern Territory. AGA plans to power these electrolysers with a 4.5GW solar plant to produce green hydrogen for ammonia production. The venture, aiming to be one of the largest green ammonia production facilities globally, targets a daily output of approximately 2,700 metric tons of green ammonia. This initiative arises from the increasing demand for green ammonia in sectors like agriculture, energy storage, and transport. Plug Power CEO Andy Marsh emphasized the benefits of electrolysis-based hydrogen in reducing costs and carbon footprint. The collaboration between Plug Power and AGA not only advances green ammonia production but also contributes to the global shift towards a net-zero emissions future.
