- The new system offers benefits such as reduced vibrations, direct propulsion for quicker response, and can be adapted for larger ships and longer voyages.
Clean power solutions provider eCap Marine has collaborated with Offshore Service Gesellschaft to introduce a groundbreaking containerized hydrogen-electric energy system on the Coastal Liberty OSV in Germany. This innovative solution aims to significantly reduce emissions and minimize the environmental impact of maritime operations in the Wadden Sea. Offshore Service Gesellschaft's decision to transition to green hydrogen underscores a strong commitment to sustainable practices and advancing the energy transition. The system, developed by eCap Marine, incorporates two 200kW fuel cells, a Lehmann Marine maritime battery system, a fire extinguishing system, tank units, a custom power management system, and essential safety equipment. Moreover, this technology is scalable, enabling its implementation in larger commercial vessels, extended voyages, and smaller inland ships. The green hydrogen required for the fuel cells is produced locally through an electrolyser hydrogen plant powered by offshore wind energy. This setup allows for flexible expansion to meet growing demands efficiently. The adoption of this new energy system not only reduces vibrations on board but also enhances propulsion, enabling immediate responses to the propeller shafts. Overall, this initiative represents a significant step towards a cleaner and more sustainable maritime industry driven by green hydrogen technology.
