RWE and TotalEnergies Partner to Deliver Green Hydrogen Project in the Netherlands
Key Ideas
  • RWE and TotalEnergies have formed a partnership to deliver the OranjeWind offshore wind project in the Netherlands, with TotalEnergies acquiring a 50% equity stake in the wind farm.
  • TotalEnergies has signed a tolling agreement for 130 MW from Air Liquide's ELYgator electrolyzer project to produce 15,000 t/year of green hydrogen for Antwerp.
  • The OranjeWind project aims to transform renewable energy electrons into green hydrogen, reducing CO2 emissions at the Antwerp location by up to 150,000 t annually.
  • The project is expected to be operational by the end of 2027, contributing significantly to sustainability goals and the transition to green energy.
In July 2024, RWE and TotalEnergies announced a partnership agreement to work together on the OranjeWind offshore wind project in the Netherlands. TotalEnergies secured a 50% equity stake in the wind farm as part of this collaboration. In a separate development, TotalEnergies has also entered into a tolling agreement with Air Liquide's ELYgator electrolyzer project in the Maasvlakte region of the Netherlands. This agreement involves 130 MW dedicated to producing around 15,000 tons per year of green hydrogen for TotalEnergies' operations in Antwerp. The renewable energy generated by the OranjeWind project will be used to produce green hydrogen, which is expected to reduce CO2 emissions at the Antwerp site by up to 150,000 tons annually. The project's completion is slated for the end of 2027, marking a significant milestone in the journey towards sustainability and a greener energy landscape.
